Personal Update: My Goals and Resolutions for 2022

Last year was a busy one for everyone and as the year drew to a close I found myself not sticking to the priorities I set early in the year. This is why habit stacking is important, rather than trying to commit to full life overhauls. You never know what life will bring and you want to set yourself up for success! (I talked about this more in a recent blog post.)

This year, I’m committed to more consistency in both my personal fitness journey as well as my Beachbody business. I will be using a calendar and logging my daily activity to track my consistency—great for a visual reminder of what I’m striving for. I am also getting my family on board with some of the changes and just trying to do better overall.

Here’s some of what I’ll focus on this year:

  • Committing to myself. I will start with Job 1 because I know I need to take care of myself. I need to make myself a priority. I plan to work through that entire program in January, then see what program calls to me in future months. I really want to build more muscle and I think that Job 1 is the program where I can start that process.
  • Committing to the weights. To ensure I’m building muscle, I’m going to track my weights with each workout so I can remember what weights I use for different exercises. This helps me to push myself more and make progress each week.
  • Committing to the calendar. Each Beachbody program comes with a training calendar, and I plan to use that alongside my personal calendar so I can carve out time for both my Beachbody workouts and my regular tennis practice each week. With my family and work schedule, a calendar keeps me on track!
  • Committing to eating better. It’s so easy to get lazy with nutrition, especially when you’re busy. But even my kids have expressed a desire to eat better and I’m happy to accommodate! Jeff and I rarely eat fast food, but we’ll occasionally indulge. I plan to spend more time meal prepping (a weakness for me) and make sure that we always have healthy foods ready to cook or warm-up so there’s not a temptation to run through a drive-through after a game or practice with the kids.
  • Committing to community. I thrive on community and working together, but I haven’t done a great job of keeping on top of this. I have several Facebook groups that are inactive, so this year I’m going to revive them or start new BOD groups that will focus on the success of everyone. (Want to be part of one? Let’s talk!)
  • Committing to family. Each family member has their own love language, and I want to honor that. This year, I want to spend time doing acts of service with Charlie, spend quality time with Jeff, go shopping with Lucy, visit Jack in Chicago, attend each child’s sporting events as much as I can. I’m still working to figure out Molly’s love language. These kids keep growing and getting older and I know that I’ll be sad when they have their own kids and potentially live elsewhere. I want to soak up as much of them as I can right now.

None of my commitments have a tangible end or goal in mind; they’re intentions and things I’ll build goals around. And I’ll be sure to take my own advice and take it slow, building on each new habit I want to establish.

What do you plan to do this year to grow as a person? Share with me; I’d love to hear!
