Surrounding Yourself with the Right People

Coach’s Corner: Surrounding Yourself with the Right People

Your circle of close friends and family is there because you share a common set of values and goals. You have wishes and desires in common, along with the motivation to accomplish them.

This is one of the most important things in reaching your goals: surround yourself with the right people.

You probably have friends or even family members who you don’t talk to very often. And when you do, you may find yourself questioning things. My guess is that you don’t talk to them often because they’re not really lifting you up to where you want to be.

One of the things I love about Beachbody is that it creates a culture of supportive people–if done right.

In May, I spent a long weekend in Florida with some leaders on my team. There were four of us and we spent time together having fun and connecting on a personal level, but we also talked business.

Too many businesses operate in a circle of competition, with everyone trying to one-up one another. This doesn’t serve anyone well.

Instead, on our retreat, we taught one another about different tools and resources that we’ve been having success within our businesses. Everyone learned, and everyone won. And we also had some great meals and did some shopping along the way.

At Beachbody, we always focus on the four vital behaviors:

  • Be a product of the product
  • Invite people to join you
  • Recognize others
  • Personal development

The reality is that there are many ways to do all of these things, and it starts with showing up for yourself. Making the time to connect with others. Teaching others and listening to what they’re teaching.

And all of that requires finding the right group of people to surround yourself with, and if that group doesn’t exist then creating it for yourself.

I’ve been a Beachbody coach for well over a decade. During that time, I’ve been “that” person, the one who focused on the vital behaviors and showed up daily. I’ve also not been “that” person. And when I wasn’t doing the work, it showed in my business.

When you’re ready for it to work and you’ve decided that it’s going to work, it will. But it will take time. So start doing the work, even if you’re not seeing the results right now. Be the person you need to surround yourself with, and eventually, you’ll attract those people to you too.
