Top Health Apps and Resources

As a health and fitness coach, people ask me all the time what resources I use to stay on track. We’re so lucky to have access to resources at our fingertips today, tools that provide a wide range of support for this journey.

These are just a few of the tools available out there; there are plenty more! I don’t recommend using all of these at once but rather look for what you need and start there.

Phone Apps

Garmin Connect

If you’re a runner, swimmer, or cyclist…or just an avid outdoors person, Garmin Connect can keep all your stats for you–and so much more. You can track your menstrual cycle, your heart rate, and even your sleep and daily step count if you wear a Garmin watch daily. And if you’re feeling really motivated, Garmin has challenges and friendly competitions to keep your momentum going. It’s available on both Android and Apple.

MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal is the go-to app for anyone who wants to track their nutritional intake. And it’s not just about keeping tabs on your calories; MyFitnessPal can help with macros like carbs, fat, and protein too, so you consume the right combination of nutrition. If you enter your regular exercise, you can see where you might need to increase your calorie intake, and you can also keep track of your weight goals. MyFitnessPal has free and paid options and is available on Android and Apple.

Insight Timer

Meditation is not just for your mental health; it’s good for your body too. The Insight Timer app has guided meditations and meditation series–both recorded and live–for people with a wide range of needs. Choose from meditations for sleeping, stress, anxiety, mindfulness, and more. And choose insightful talks on Buddhist trainings, values and humanity, Tarot readings, inner critics, and more. You can even find special meditations for children. There’s a free and paid version and it’s available on Android and Apple.

Apple Health

Similar to Garmin, Apple Health can help you keep all your health data organized. It also centralizes information from third party apps, like Dexcom if you’re diabetic, Medisafe so you remember to take your medications, Calm if you’re prioritizing meditation and breathing, and more. You can also keep track of your health records so you don’t have to guess about dates of past procedures while filling out medical documents. As an Apple product, Apple Health comes with Apple devices; it’s up to you to set it up and put it to use.

All Trails

If you’re looking to get outside and enjoy the mountains, AllTrails can help you find local trails no matter where you live or are visiting. Simply enter your location in the search bar and read the reviews from other hikers to choose your adventure. This is a free app but the paid version allows you to download and record routes in case you navigate outside of cell range. It’s available on Android and Apple.

Streaming Sites

Beachbody on Demand

Of course, I have to shout out my favorite streaming site, Beachbody on Demand. And the service isn’t just for streaming Beachbody’s entire library of workouts anymore! You can find a BODgroup to work directly with your coach for accountability, grab recipes, learn more about nutritional mindset, decompress with meditation, and more. This is truly my own daily go-to tool.

Books

Lose Weight Like Crazy by Autumn Calabrese

Everyone knows Autumn for her Fixate and Fixate 2 cookbooks and they’re both fantastic. But this book takes it a step further. Using her practical methods and no-nonsense advice, she’ll walk you through how to push past mindset and even physical blocks to achieve the health and fitness you’ve been reaching for.

You Can Drop It by Ilana Muhlstein

Another Beachbody pro, Ilana is known for her 2B Mindset program. In her book, she shares how she lost 100 pounds on her own through research and trial and error. She teaches you how to be in control of your eating habits and be able to enjoy the foods you love while keeping the weight off.
