Why Wait? Making Everyday Special

Molly in her fancy dressMy daughter, Molly, recently asked to put on her fancy dress. We didn’t have anything special going on that day, she just simply wanted to wear it. I think our tendency, or at least mine, is usually to say “no.” This is probably because we don’t want them to ruin the clothes (they can be expensive), or “save” them for the next dress-up occasion.

When I really stopped to think about it, that doesn’t make any sense! If I save the kids’ fancy clothes for special occasions, there’s a really good possibility they won’t even fit when the time comes to wear them. So that day, I said “yes.” Molly put on her lovely dress and we put a beautiful bow in her hair. She loved wearing it and it really reminded me that every day can be special. There’s no reason we shouldn’t dress up just because we want to.

It struck me that this is situation was really just like LIFE – why wait to ENJOY it? We should use our GOOD CHINA and NICE SILVER, drink from crystal glasses, wear our fancy clothes and not wait around for that special occasion (which may never in fact arrive). We can chose to celebrate every day in some way and enjoy all those “special” things instead of letting them get too small or gather dust.

How do you celebrate life? I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments!
