Ivy Update

Ivy Update: She’s Growing Up!

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about Ivy so I thought I’d give you all a little update (of course you can always follow her on Instagram for photo updates @imivythevizsla). Like everyone else, Ivy is guilty of putting on a little bit of COVID weight. Not surprisingly, since we haven’t been able to have as many play dates as we’d like and we’ve been too busy to walk as much as we used to.

But on the plus side, Ivy has (mostly) given up chewing and eating things. We’ve had our fair share of that over the years!

We added our new family member back in early 2018 and since then we’ve worked on training (the humans), keeping her away from all the things she loves to chew, keeping one another company during the lockdown, and her becoming an “adult.”

There hasn’t been a dull moment but I wouldn’t change much. I probably could have done without all the sock and mask eating though!

We actually thought she got another sock a while back when a house guest couldn’t find a sock. We took her to the vet but they couldn’t find anything and eventually the house guest found the missing sock. Thank goodness!

Ivy will be 4 next month and she’s currently tipping the scales at about 47 pounds; she’s usually 40 to 42 pounds. We’ve gotten in the habit of giving her a treat every time she goes to the bathroom outside, and that really needs to stop.

Ivy’s best friend is Rex, a 1.5-year-old vizsla whose mom I met in a Facebook group. He’s all puppy and Ivy puts up with his shenanigans and they have a ball together.

She’s much better behaved these days, though she still has her moments. I recently brought her to see my parents at their new place and she was very well behaved. Her first few trips in the elevator freaked her out a bit, but eventually she just laid down and waited. I guess she really is maturing.

I’ve mentioned before that Ivy was my idea and Jeff wanted no part of her. Guess who is Ivy’s “person”? Yep, Jeff! She follows him around the house and always finds his lap on the couch. It’s very cute and I know Jeff secretly loves all the attention!
