Staying on Track

Staying On Track

Nutrition is such a crucial piece of your health journey, but it’s also the most difficult part to stick to if you’re busy and unprepared. With kids going back to school and professionals going back into the office, you might be feeling the challenge, too.

I spent a good amount of time up north in Show Low this summer. Away from the responsibility of being Mom Taxi or having the traditional responsibilities at home, I found it much easier to stay on track nutritionally. I found new, healthy recipes and played around with ways to make some of our family favorites a little healthier.

Things like:

  • Zucchini tacos, where a hollowed-out zucchini was the taco shell
  • Pizza, with spaghetti squash as the “crust”

But back in Phoenix, I found my nutrition starting to slide again because meal planning and prepping and grocery shopping is not something that’s fun for me. I just don’t like doing it.

Here’s what I’ve found helpful as I try to get back into it this fall:

  • More vegetables is always a good idea
  • The George Foreman grill is the perfect solution to grilling when it’s too hot (or cold!) out to stand at the grill
  • There’s nothing wrong with bagged salad and it gets dinner on the table faster
  • Little tweaks in recipes can make a big difference over time
  • Grocery delivery is a lifesaver when no one wants to shop
  • Staying on track also means prioritizing relationships–healthy living inside and out

And, of course, nutrition should be our highest priority. When we put good foods into our bodies, we feel better and it’s easier to work out and be present for our loved ones.

Good, quality nutrition is preventative medicine in the same way that brushing our teeth is preventative. We need to prioritize our wellness on multiple fronts if we’re going to stay the course for the long haul.

How are you putting your nutrition to the top of your priority list?
