Getting Visibility Away from Social Media

Coach’s Corner: Getting Visibility Away from Social Media

As coaches, social media feels like a really easy way to gain a following and grow our businesses. And it’s true, but it also takes a lot of time. After all, being a coach is about building relationships–and those can be hard to grow in the confusion of social media posts.

If you’re ready to put down social media for a time and start focusing on the people behind the computer screens, read on!

Talk to People 1:1

It sounds so old-school but truly the way to build relationships and grow your business is with good old-fashioned 1:1 conversations. This is hands-down my favorite way to connect and one I feel I excel at. I literally could have a conversation with anyone at any time (much to my family’s chagrin).

If direct conversations aren’t your thing, that’s okay! You can do this via direct messages in social media, getting on the phone with people, sending emails, etc. We’re so lucky to have a wide range of ways to connect with others these days.

Host Local Classes

Community centers, libraries, and even local gyms are always looking for people to teach classes on a wide range of topics. What are you good at? Are you a whiz at whipping up quick and healthy meals in the kitchen? Are you a pro at motivating people to stick to a workout program? Do you love early morning runs?

Find something you love to do and want to teach others, then find an organization that’s looking for teachers on that topic (or the other way around). You’ll be able to get in front of people you wouldn’t otherwise connect with and motivate them on their health and fitness goals.

Create a Meetup Group

If you find it difficult to find a place to teach, Meetup is an option to create your own group! Meetup is an online platform where users can find groups and events by searching their interests. It’s totally free for users and group hosts pay a small fee.

As a host, users find and join your group based on their interests and you create the meetup events you want. They can be virtual or in-person–it’s up to you! You can also create intake questions to vet new members so you can curate the group you want.

Join a Networking Group

Traditional networking is a great way to connect with a group of people in a captive setting. There are organized groups, like Business Network International or Women’s Networking Alliance, that are structured in a way that everyone gets a turn to speak at every meeting. And there are others that are more meet-and-greet style like you’ll find at your local chamber of commerce.

These groups allow you to get in front of a lot of people who are dedicated to helping others grow their businesses through referrals. Be sure to be an active participant and do your part to help others grow their businesses too.

Continuing to grow your business doesn’t have to be all about social media posts and hosting challenges. Sure, these work, but spice it up a bit with other business-building activities too!
