How to Reconnect with Nature

We’ve had a few beautiful (and warm!) days here in Phoenix. And I know that temperatures are warming up across the country.

Side note: I saw someone post on Facebook the other day about it almost being grilling season. It’s grilling season year-round here!

Spring is a time of rebirth and getting back out into nature, and thankfully there’s so much to do outside–no matter where you’re located.

Say Goodbye to the Cold

If you’re somewhere where the weather is still chilly, you can start to take your last run down the slopes or your last turn on the snowshoes or sled. Winter sports are fun, but I feel like there are so many more options when the weather is warm.

Outdoors with Kids

We like to be active and outdoors, even when the kids are actively participating in sports. We don’t have a boat, but our kids would waterski all day long if they could.

Some other good options for being outdoors this time of year include finding new trails and walking the dog in the mornings–both things we’re going to enjoy up north this spring and summer.

You can also play tennis at the local tennis courts or start a game of basketball. If you don’t feel like you’re athletically inclined, geocaching is fun, or playing with the kids on the local playground, or even taking the dogs to a local dog park.

Outdoors on Your Own

As your kids get older, or if you opt to sneak outside without them, you can get a little more adventurous. Of course, walks and hiking are still fun, but you can drive further to a trailhead or try out a more difficult hike when it’s just you. Leaving older kids at home is also an option, if you don’t have particularly outdoorsy kids.

Whatever you do and wherever you are, being outside is good for you. According to Harvard Medical School, it’ll make you happier, help you with your focus at work, and enable you to get more vitamin D, an essential nutrient that we don’t get enough of–even in Arizona!

And if you are in Arizona, or any extreme climate, be sure to dress appropriately and stay hydrated!
